This yacht named Guilty was commissioned by one of the world’s top art collectors, Dakis Joannou; it’s no surprise that Joannou hired renowned American painter, Jeff Koons to paint his yacht these wacky colours.

PlanetSolar, also known as MS Tûranor is the world’s largest solar-powered boat. This catamaran was commissioned by Raphaël Domjan, a Swiss explorer who founded a foundation under the same name with the intent of spreading education and research on solar energy. The boat weighs 100 tons or 89,000 kg and has 5,500 square meters or 512 square feet of photovoltaics, which generate electric power by solar cells. This power charges the lithium-ion batteries that are stored in the hull and allows the boat to run on that power alone for up to three whole days!

At first glance, the Adastra looks to be a spaceship from the future, but in actuality, it is a 140-foot yacht. Believe it or not, it can be controlled by an iPad…so in the end, maybe it is actually a vessel from the future!

Yacht Management
If you are lucky enough to purchase your own yacht, it is important to take care of it properly. If you are leasing a boat or even if you have signed a long term rental contract, it is still your responsibility to keep the yacht in pristine condition while it is under your care and use. If it is under 30 meters, you most likely won’t have an issue maintaining it on your own, but once you get into the luxury boat world it may be time to find a yacht management company. Such companies will have a manager on call 24/7 to deal with emergencies or any issues to be solved with the boat while the owner is not available. And it goes beyond solving technical issues with the yacht itself; a yacht is almost like a city in the sense that you need different people to operate different sectors.

Important roles in yacht management:
An accountant is one of the most important positions you should have with your yacht management company, as it is vital to keep all of the boat’s finances in check. Of course, the operations manager can make sure that everything is running smoothly in the kitchen, onboard, and with all planning and logistics. An administrator will keep track of safety and managing the entire crew.

For mega and superyachts we have a list of top yacht management companies:
•3 Yacht Management. This company has a collective 300 years of experience in the maritime industry. Each client receives a ‘management pod’ of experts that includes an operations manager, yacht manager, administrator, and account manager.

•Dream Yacht Charter offers multiple programs for financially managing your luxury charter yachts including financing and payments based on your salary.

•Fraser is a full-service yacht management company started by David Fraser himself on the West Coast of the US in 1947. He began it as a yacht brokerage service eventually growing the company to full-service management, merging with United Yachting in Europe.
