Getting to Bodrum

Bodrum

Location
Bodrum is the main town on a peninsula in the Province of Mugla in South West Turkey. Bodrum Airport is actually out of the town in Milas.

By air
The vast majority of visitors to Bodrum and the Peninsula fly into the airport at Milas, 35 km and about 45 minutes inland. There are minimal flights in the winter but once spring arrives there are regular direct charter flights from many regional airports in Europe. They continue through the months of summer until the end of October. Car hire is available as well as bus transfer to Bodrum.

Domestic flights go backwards and forwards to Istanbul all year round with Turkish Airlines and Pegasus so overseas visitors can still get to Bodrum during the weeks of winter by changing in Istanbul. Flights from Istanbul to Bodrum are daily. Flights from the UK to Bodrum begin around Easter. These direct cheap flights from London to Bodrum, Manchester to Bodrum and indeed most other regions of the UK to Bodrum are plentiful with flight time being around 4 hours and transfer time to your
accommodation and or hotel just over 40 minutes.

The closest mainland airports otherwise are Izmir, over 2 hours north and Dalaman 3 hours south east.

There is also an airport on the nearby
Greek Island of Kos. These are primarily during the same months when direct flights are available into Milas.

By land
The Turkish road infrastructure is now extremely good. There are top quality roads along the southern and western coastlines of Turkey. The road that runs north-south from the extreme south west of Turkey up north to Izmir and beyond eventually to Istanbul links to the road to Bodrum just north of Mugla at Yagatan. The journey from this main thoroughfare to Bodrum takes about an hour and a half passing the airport at Milas en route.

The national bus services are excellent and all major cities are accessible by coach.

By ferry
Ferries link Bodrum to the nearby Greek Islands of Rhodes, Kalymnos, Symi and Kos. Kos is the closest with the hovercraft journey short enough that it is hardly worth sitting down. Many are primarily in the tourist season though obviously there is winter connections to Kos which is so close. More people arrive by charter yacht or gulet from points to the north and east.

Blue cruise Bodrum tours going to Greek islands is another way of visiting nearby greek islands.
