Domuz Island

Domuz Island

This island just out from Fethiye is known as Pig Island, Prince Island and more formally as Domuz Island. A long time ago there were many wild pigs living here and the Turkish word for pigs is well Domuz! Nowadays you won’t see that many wild pigs running around as the pig population numbers have been dwindling. Asides from the pigs this beautiful island is covered in lush pine trees and olive trees all the way down to the coastline. There are also some hidden ruins scattered around the island, explore ancient churches and houses. Some of this date back from the Byzantine era and some as recent as the World War I. You might find towards the shoreline partially sunken ruins as well. Take a short hike inland to explore these ruins and then relax at the shore upon the sand. The water here is clear and a cool breeze always welcomes the beach. There is no harbour to dock at so your best to get ashore is to take a smaller boat or indulge in swimming at the tranquil waters.

For other islands that have ruins or mystical history attached to it do make your way towards Cleopatras Bath Hamam Bay, Tersane Island Dockyard and Flat Islands.
